Your suggestion is really very good one. WE shaould have parking at Dashabhuja.

But the question is whether this suggestion will be accepted ? and if accepted when will it be implemented ??????

It seems a very good idea though it will increase traffic congestion on adjacent roads

In many cities parking is not at all allowded on main roads, Pune is Exception!

It is indeed a good idea but we also need to look at the areas where parking space is alloted but is being used for something else. Near Appa Balvant Chowk, along the footpath next to Venus traders, the entire area (parking area + footpath) has been occupied by the Second-hand book sellers. We are already running out of space for parking in the city centers and in such a situations, THESE PEOPLE NEED TO BE MOVED OUT.

Of course, the Police Chouki next to this area (near Dagadu Sheth Ganapati Madir) is promptly picking up the vehicles parked in the worng areas. When asked them about these booksellers occupying the space the responce is 'tell this to the Atikraman vibhag. it is their duty'.

    SO WHAT IS OUR DUTY??
    WAIT AND WATCH!!!!!

Parking lot below the over-bridge is a very good idea.
Also,Self descipline to drivers/riders ia a MUST to overcome traffic problems in Aapale Pune.

    Parking is not solution
Widening road between Paud rd police chowky and SNDT and having a parking there is a viable solution
    But Who will listen

Builder lobby and interested political parties will keep status quo and traffic jamms

Insted of parking place under the bridge solution to the smooth traffic in that section of the road is of first priority

I will suggest we should not use this place for parking because -

This road is always flooded with vechicles including heavy vehicles and if we allow parking in that case people will have to control their vehicle speed as there will be continuos flow of vehicles going in and out from parking area.

This will result in traffic chaos as well as traffic jam on the busiest route of pune.

gauri, the street in Dadar where there is parking under the bridge is busier than the one in kothrud.infact there is dadar bus depot near by.but still the traffic due to parking under the bridge is not a problem there.
when u take ur vehicle out of parking, it is ur resposiblity to look out for traffic and make sure u dont create raffic chaos.if we obey the traffic signals and traffic rules, more than 90% of the traffic problems could be solved.
i really dont understand why educated people like us are so nigligent to traffic rules.

Pallavee, you are right. when you ask police about the second hand books seller near venus traders, they dont care bcoz they get regular "hafta" from those sellers !!! if the kick them out from there, their source of income would stop.

Do you want answer in a single word? "Genes". There is problem in genes of indians because of which they can not obey any rule. (So, for example, the movement against the british was not because of some patriotism. It was because these guys simply love to break any and every rule). Regarding what gauri is saying, i think that she has some substance in that. Puneiites have a habit of forcefully thrusting their vehicles in a smooth traffic by disturbing it. And this is done by 99 percent of the people. So the traffic problem will definitely increase. You are giving an example of Dadar. But people in Mumbai are decent, patient and obey rules. In pune, everybody is either a descendent of the Chhatrapatis or of the Peshwas. So they have a moral right to disturb a traffic by a)going against it or b) going across it or c) thrusting their vehicle in it (and it is moral duty of the remaining mortals to make way for them!). If it was only one descendent, then it would not have been problematic. But as each and everybody is a descendent, it creates chaos.

How will they answer? Tell me one thing. Who pays them? The rickshaw-wallahs or the two-wheeler-riders? How can they step on the stomach of the very people who feed them?

Now coming to the rickshaw-wallahs issue. Here are some of my suggestions.
    1. Carry a bill-card in your wallet all the time and pay accordingly.
    2. Do not pay more (even Rs.20).
Refuse if you are asked to pay more-either initally or when you are asked.
    3. If they insist, take your bag out and just go. No rickshaw-wallah can leave his rickshaw and run behind you.
    4. If that can not be done, tell him to take to the nearest police station. I can not explain, at this moment, how that works, but most of the time, it does. In the police station allege anything on the Rickshaw-wallah right from cheating to assault.
    5. Do not catch rickshaw from
    a> Outside of station
b> Outside the engineering college, wakdewadi
Always catch it somewhat away from these places.
    6. Eat. A rickshaw-wallah can never intimidate a "heavyweight" person.
    7. Try PMT and PCMT. They are not only for "ordinary people". If you "can" unnecessarily pay that big amount for that short travel, why complain?
