    really felt sorry for sandeep
but I don't think so such a highly qualified and mature person can really commit suicide for such a small thing. his suicide is very suspicious as he has written letter and also made sms to his brother, at very small age he had gained more which many people must not be liking.........

Hi, I think we need to see this issue a bit differently. I feel Sandeep must have been passing thro some tensions/issues for which he didn't had any immediate answer.. at least he might have been thinking so. These and some tensions might have been piling on. And at the time of his suicide he might have felt something like "this is it, can not bare any more now. There is no light at the end of the tunnel" etc. I fell whenever any one takes that decision of suicide he/she might be feeling that "now i do not have any resources to cope up", "I can not stand these tensions". He must have been passing thro some severe depression. So let's not question the genuineness of his emotion. His emotions were real for him. Only the difference is this emotion was got blown out of proportion at that moment of suicide. It is like we have a small box and entire box has been filled with a balloon of irrational thoughts like depression. What we need a small needle of rational thought to puncture the balloon and bring our emotions from depression to concern level.... it;s like how do we see at a situation- is it a "Adchan" or "Aapatti" or "Pralayapatti"....

I 100% agreed with Abijit. When I read this news same thoughts comes in my mind. I was upset and I discuss this matter with my family and my family also totally agreed with Abhijit. As a mother it is totally injustice with Sandip's mother. It is total loss on the basis of national level, family level that will never recover in future.

Really, its a sad.... if he had ended his life because of work pressure then its a fault of his company and his bosses. They were NOT able to or rather they had no maturity to find out whats really going wrong with him. When he had said in his last message that he was not able to work properly, then definately he must have been put under unbearable pressure. This is very common in IT industry. The managers in IT industry are not experienced enough to handle the subordinates. They have been given the post of Project managers or something like that because company wants to retain them irrespective of thir caliber. And interestingly they are worried about their targets, and for that they use their subordinates like SLAVES. They just want to show the higher management that ... Look I did it... Now give me increment... This is the common culture in 99%of the IT companies. Though every company says we have open culture and all that but still the reality is very different. Arraging trips and Lunch and cultural events does not mean Open Culture. Even the Human Resource people also do not understand this. They are much expert in firing the people OR when its a time of increment they use their experties for bluffing the employees why he/she has not been given increment.... There has to be a serious thinking from Top management about these issues. But unfortunately those people are more worried about quarter to quarter growth and Balance sheets. I think the people who experience work pressure or harrasement from the bosses , they should come together irrespective of their company and discuss their difficulties and should get guidance from the right people to manage the stress ... ultimately everybody has to grow and everybody has to live happy life...

what you are saying, is obsolutely correct. I think that Sandip has not any close friend at his office with whom he can share his feelings. that is big problem. Othrewise he couldn't.............

Yes it's true,,,,either you earn money or peace. Very few people can earn both.....
My condition was very bad than Sandip,,,,,,,,,,,,,But I could manage due to meditaion and Spiritual life. I have decided never give up this precious life.

What has happened is extremely unfortunate!
I do not completely agree with the poster. I agree to the fact that, discussing his problems with someone might have mitigated his stress to some extent. But, i do not side with the view which has been presented in the post - that Sandeep took an extreme step without a deserving cause.
It has to be accepted that one _cannot_ imagine what another person feels. Each one of us is different. There are some of us who, by nature, are extremely sensitive. They can be stressed out by happenings which will seem routine to everyone else. Was he like them ? Did we or the media study his medical history before commenting ? What, if he had suicidal tendencies since long ? Since he was said to be okay for the entire day; was his final act a result of an attack of suicidal thoughts rather than extreme work pressure ? Was he suffering from any psychological disorder which triggered such thoughts ? Maybe, people close to him can shed some light on it.
What i am trying to say is that, it will be incorrect and unfair to evaluate his decision, let alone labelling it wrong or saying 'तुझ्यावर असा कोणता मोठा ताण होता'. We are not in a position to know what he must have felt when he took the fateful decision.

As a human being we should know where to stop. We should decide our priorities .Money is someting for us not everything .

We can not buy everything using money.

As we are professionals , we should konw how to handle pressure. Be bold to say No.If you are having issue share with your friends. In It industry , we are not close to each other as compared to other industry. So we should take one step forward to make friends .

We only visit other countries but never implement good habbits. In other countries employee always give first preference to family.

The Art of Living: Vipassana Meditation

Everyone seeks peace and harmony, because this is what we lack in our lives. From time to time we all experience agitation, irritation, disharmony. And when we suffer from these miseries, we don't keep them to ourselves; we often distribute them to others as well. Unhappiness permeates the atmosphere around someone who is miserable, and those who come in contact with such a person also become affected. Certainly this is not a skillful way to live.

We ought to live at peace with ourselves, and at peace with others. After all, human beings are social beings, having to live in society and deal with each other. But how are we to live peacefully? How are we to remain harmonious within, and maintain peace and harmony around us, so that others can also live peacefully and harmoniously?

    Hi Sandeep ,

    Unfortunate ……..very unfortunate.

I just shocked when read the online news. What’s that ? You did suicide. Why ?

A lot of questions are standing in front me. But at least I think that we should restrict our boundaries of earn & satisfaction & should set the target . Because nobody is satisfied especially with the money matters . That means every one is chasing the money. Nobody have a time to see the other world beyond the money. What Sandeep has done is truly not suited to his endavour .

So this is the second case in last two months that due to the work pressure the young IT engineers are suiciding. So all of us should have to open our eyes , stop to run for chasing money, be neutral , try to live with our family members , try to share our ideas between our team met & friends to avoid such type of incidences.

Why this things are happening in India. Multinational companies are offering higher packages to the higher educated talents & remaining guys can’t get that much in the money prospective. So that it’s creating a two levels in the society. One is higher rich & other is too poor. That creates a huge Gap between the society from the point view of money, status & everything (E.g. Rural & Urban Class.)

From the point view of companies they should keep keen track on their employees to solve their problems at personal level. Government should try to reduce the gap between rich & poor.

    That’s my personal opinion.

    Abhijit,

U r right, it is very shocking unfortunate. One must that there are lota of people to give tension & same time it depends on you how much of tension u should carry. This is a last answer Sandeep has found. But while going for such way one must think of people who love u so much & what is going to happen with them afterwards.

Very nice thoughts Abhijeet. Truly speaking I didn't felt sorry for Sandeep but I did felt sorry for his family. Each & everyone has stress, tensions & frustrations these days, competition has become worse & everyone want to prove himself. I don't know actual reason for his suicide rather no one knows other than him. Whatever it was but suicide is certainly not the way to solve problems, its pure run away.

I believe in fact that "many problems can be solved by discussions" & "As there's one way to enter there's always one way marked exit". Life is rare & small ,I'll say our life is not really ours. We get educated for better life for us & our family, to earn better for family & self. If look carefully no person lives for himself/herself, so no one has right to commit suicide by leaving everyone in pain & agony.

IT companies are not torture chambers if they pay you huge salary they obviously expect good work & its understood by each & every person who works in them. IT companies are very informal way of operating, everyone is at same level, no sir & no bossing is present. If you are in trouble you can always talk with seniors, fellow colleagues or HR to solve them. IF they are worse you can search & join other company. If you refuse to tell your problems how others gonna help to solve them?? Its like "Doctor please treat me but I will not tell whats happened to me." How doctor is gonna help you??

Share your problems & solve them. Don't end up your precious life, its not truly yours.

    Hi,
Whatever has happened is very sad.
    I agree with Vinit.
I am x-employee of the company where Sandeep was working. I believe that it is the best company to work with - at least in Pune. The work culture of the company is really very nice. I agree that when you are working for an IT company, then there are always dead lines. But if you fail to meet those dead lines then no one is going to hang you for that. I was working for this company for 2 years. And all my managers and team members very nice and co-operative. We really had very healthy work culture in our company. In fact I wish I could always get to work in such a healthy environment. In a company prior to this, I have also experienced political, unhealthy work culture, where no one will talk to you other than just work. I always felt that I am going in a jell. Every day I used to feel like I don't want to go in such a pathetic company. I worked in that company forcefully for 1.5 months and then I felt like that's it. I have to end this. So one day I just called the HR and told that I m not coming anymore. So what I am saying is if you don't like to work for a particular company then you can always find other. No one can compel you. And for such a small problem suicide is not a solution.
At the last I again want to repeat this the company where Sandeep was working has very nice and healthy work culture. And that's why many employees are there in that company for more than 5-7 years and many newly joined employees want to remain in the company for many more years to come. I got married and had to leave Pune. But if I get a chance to come to Pune, then again would like to join this same company.
If Sandeep was having problems, then he would have escalated this to senior people. And I believe that definitely there would have been some solution. He could have changed the project. Worst come worst he would have changed the company. And believe me the MD of this company is a very down to earth person. On my last day at this company I suddenly felt that I want to meet my MD and say thanks to him for whatever company has given me. So without taking his prior appointment I went to his office and called him from there. I told him that I want to meet you, as this is my last day in company. And the next moment he called me in his cabin. The person whom I am talking about is a very elderly person and he also understands importance of family life. So if Sandeep would have escalated this to seniors then I believe there would have been at least one person who would have helped him. I think it's always easy to blame others for our failures / mistakes.

WHatever sandeep did, is not wrong. I have been through the same condition. I was working with a company L&T infotech which is also a IT firm same as Persistance.

These outsourcing firms will pressurize you heavily & will stretch you . The working culture is absolutely wrong in such companies. To make happy to theor client , these companies may not look behind to slaughter you in front of their "Wealthy" client.
And this is the main reason of frustration. Normally the people coming from village are straight forward. They may be very brilliant & extraordinary in their educational stuff, but in reality professionalism matters a lot. How brilliant you are is worthless rather then how smart you are.I guess this is where the companies should also think. Normally top places in company are allocated to the brilliant people instead of smart. Compnay has to earn money . That is what it for. But such compnaies shpuld realise that how pressurizeing they are doing on their own employees.

Though , sanddep did not balme to any one, in my openion, the managers above the sandeep should be investigated for their force to put sandeep in frustrated condition !

You go anywhere, you may have any profession, there always be a work pressure. You should have brave heart to face challenges in life. Nothing comes readymade to anyone. Everyone has to fight against situations. If you can not fight then it's not anybody else's fault. Competition in todays world is so bad, you have to have the courage to fight against this. But this is not a way to solve things. I am also a very straight forward person, that is what I feel. And many times I can not say no to people. I also realize that then people take undue advantage of you. But I also feel that no one can go out of his/her capacities to fulfill other's expectation. Being straight forward doesn't mean that he/she can not understand what's good for him / her.
He might have not blamed anyone, but obviously if someone says that for some reason he/she is committing suicide and unfortunately if you are directly/indirectly involved in the situation, then people/media will think that the reason was you.
In the same company Persistent I had very nice team members and managers too. My manager used to come to our desk & used to say that go home now it's 7.30 in the evening. Enjoy family life also. And this is not an exaggeration. My team lead was my good friend "OUTSIDE THE OFFICE". And we are still good friends and are still in touch. And I believe same kind of work culture Persistent follows.

I have been working in the US for last many years. Here are my observations about Indian managers, in general and Indian employees who come from offshore.
    1. Indian managers put in lot of efforts but at the cost of family life of their own and their subordinates.
    2. Indian employees have no choice but to work for them as they know that they can be replaced easily.
In India, as per my information, these employees work day and night to satisfy their bosses and their clients. Situation is worse in other industries where jobs are few.
    3. 'Colonial mentality' of Indian upper management towards US companies who are offloading work. This is a 'mental slavery'. When Indian companies bid for a project they assume that their employees do NOT have other commitments (like family) so they do not allocate enough time for other activities.
    4. Indian IT community hasn't experienced any downturn yet, so they are buying properties with no plan for rainy days. They do not realize that things may go out of their control anytime. They are not mentally and financially prepared for situations like layoffs.

I am very sorry to know about Sandeep's death. May his soul rest in peace. Hope God will give strength to his family to overcome this great loss.

Let's not forget our commitments to our loved ones and give more importance to them than our job because they are the ones whom we can rely upon.
I do think there is a need to have a community of SW employees where employees can share their problems. The nature of it should not be like a traditional union. It should help improve relationship between employees and employers. It should help stop such incidents and also not blame management solely if such incident takes place. It takes a second to tarnish reputation that took years to build.

I agree with "Anonymous said.. August 8, 2008 1:59 PM". He has correctly captured the culture & so called "Project Managers" in IT industries. Anybody having ONLY good speech can easily become "Project Manager" in IT industry & use people like Sandeep as SLAVES.

I believe Sandeep has mentioned in a note "Sadhya mi yogya padhatine kam karu shakat nahi; tyamule kantalalo aahe. mazya mrutyula mich karanibhut aasun tyasathi konalahi jababadar dharu naye".

This clearly tells me that he was doing a great job however company/or so called "Project Managers" were not appraising him (to the level he deserved). They were making fool of Sandeep with their good speech & using him as SLAVE. Finally Sandeep realized that & committed suicide.

"Speak more & work less" is the key to grow in Indian IT company.

Anyways, I feel very sad for whatever has happened & my prayers for Sandeep and his Family.

    I liked Dyanesh's comment.
When I joined In-Reality (later sold to a sindhi Wadhwani - Symphony who eventually donated couple of million dollars to IIT and who kind of screwed up I2 technologies!) I was floating under Desh-Prem. As this company (In-reality) was started by none other than my freinds. Later I realized the capitalistic game they were playing when in-reality was sold to symphony. Thats capitalism dude, i was told - in a tone that there is nothing wrong. so are all the emplyees just supposed to continue work, business casual? I used to urge the team to go out in the evening do some sports, but there used to be fear that they will have to sit late later and on weekends. I succeeded a bit. Irony of outsourcing is our own indian guys are controlling things from west just to keep their living standards high. Don't we have living standards? I used to wonder, stepped down myself. Then came the reality (from in-reality) that people work for earning money and not for what their passion is etc. And this lead to pandora of realizations later, about our political leaders, land dealings etc. Incidently, Mr Gaikwas of Aundh should be awarded IT Shilpakar (sculpturist) as he owns the land and petrol pumps and has liberty to run high noice machinary for a year as no one dares to complain and use the road to dump diggin mitti for about a year. That's india!!!

It is a very pathetic situation here. So all those planning to come back for good, rethink and adjust in amercian capitalist vultures somehow.

All the good people here are awared some award and about 1 lakh Rs in monetary terms, one time. The workers on construction just die off acciedents.

    Nice article!
No one knows what that guy was going through. I happened to see his orkut profile, and I came across a person who probably was outgoing from the outside but extremely tightlipped/ unsharing on the inside.May his soul rest in peace, but the suicide was not justified.I sympathise with his parents but not with him.No reason can be justifiable to commit suicide, especially when you have your parents to take care of. The reason being given was even worse....work pressure. Another victim of the rat race. The race to perform, the race to excel and the constant pressure to win. This is the stress that builds up right from the childhood for people of our generation. First the pressure to perform in exams, then the pressure to perform in IIT entrances (the case with Sandeep), then the pressure to achieve high CGPA in IIT, then the pressure to get a job, then the pressure to hold on to a job coupled with the pressure to move up through the ranks. In all this effort to perform or rather outperform others, we give up our mental peace. Just to earn a few bucks more and to get some stupid performance upraisals, we end up giving too much.We end up irresponsibly taking up too much work as a challenge.Add to this pressure some other additional personal issues (could be anything ranging from girlfriends to financial issues) and we get to the brink of breakdown.Just a little more pushing and the entire thing snaps. But that doesn't mean tou must commit suicide. The approach of our generation needs to change. I agree we have to perform, but then we must also learn to prioritize. We must learn to say and to hear a "NO".We need to get a grip over our greed and our ambitions.

And all those friends of Sadip also fail to understand what must be going on in his mind and didn't tried to give me good support/guide.
We just talk about leadership in company/books but fail to apply in reality.

This is so sad....what is happening here.

I would just like to point out that there is absolutely no reason for anyone to be judgmental about what Sandeep did and why. I don't think anyone has a right to analyze his actions and pass a comment saying what he did was right or wrong. No-one other than him would know the circumstances under which he chose to make such a decision. Just because he had a very good career and everything does not mean that he did not have any problems. Maybe he tried all the options that you are talking about, but they did not work. Do not just assume that he did not try anything and start giving out lectures on how he should have done this and done that...

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and one must realize that it's limited to you and you only. It is very easy for someone to read the news sitting in your living room and express grief and say that what he did was wrong and how he should have done 100 other things that come to your mind before making such a decision...

So please spare his sole and let him rest in peace that he chose over other things. Talk about what you would do in such a situation, but do not dare pass a judgement on his actions. You were not him....

When I read first time some body in IT (and IITan) committed suside, I was surprised and I went back to my Yahoo, Google, Orkut accounts saw my emails. Most of the emails were originated from so called “high work pressure” IT people. I never worked for IT, so I don’t know what kind of pressure these guys have or they take?

Now days who don’t have work pressure? But the question is what root cause is? Is it really originated from job related activities or it’s related to our “other activities” which consumes lots of “paid time” and followed by time mismanagement and failing to keep our work promises?

Internet addictions, lack of friends (not virtual!!), addictions to alcohol and smoking and unhealthy competitions at work place (especially at IT, where it have its own set of laws for going at the top of ladder).

IITans: (though human beings) when we graduate from IITs we want the “tag” of iit always with US, but so does the training we get at IIT. The amount of work, time, competitions, “other activities” we usually go through all the so called “high work pressure” situations.

So before commenting on the act committed by Sandeep we should look on these matters. If some body could post data on work pressure related figures of such incidents it would be a useful thing to look at.

We should also see whome he was reporting to, if work load was the actual reason behind this. I still doubt if that was sole reason, because there are so many opportunities around.
I switched to IT after spending few years in Mechanicle Engineering & when I compare I honestly feel that Indian IT really needs good managers. From my experience I can tell that stress level is very high when working in India under indian management.

Before I write this, I was thinking a lot, whether to write or not, but finally made my mind to write it. This writing is completely reflection of my personal thoughts and has not direct and/or indirect intention to hurt anyone living or dead.

What has happened is really very sad and the loss is totally unrecoverable to his family.
I don't know how they are facing the situation, but I prey the God to give them strength!
I know these are ONLY WORDS and the cannot even go close to pacify Sandeep's mother and rest of his family.
Abhijeet, I don't know who are you but I really appreciate whatever you have written. I believe that Sandeep must have given a thought to what you have written, only thing is that these thoughts were immaterial for him. Although he had a great success in his educational life, in my respect, he is a COMPLETE LOOSER in life. Life is not for committing sucide, you are not the one who decide to come to life, hence you don't have the right to put an FULL STOP on it as well. Those who cannot face life are the one's who do such shameful things!
I feel no sympathy towards Sandeep, but definately I feel very sad for his mother. As all mothers do, she must have taken n number of pains to raise him and to bring him to the point where he was when he was alive. All her pains are now gone in vain and she is left to suffer for all her rest of the life! This is shock which will haunt her every day and night. What's her mistake? Can't she have the right to at-least spent her life with some relaxation? One foolish thing from her son, have ruined her entire life. And for this, I don't have sympathy towards Sandeep, rather I hate such people who cannot face the life. Life is never a walk on the cake...it has its own curves and roughness, if you want to reach to the LAST GLORY, you have to walkthru it and live the complete life span you have granted...
Sandeep, in my regards have no GUTS to live the life. He must be in the wonderland, that everything has happened to me is good so far, and he could not have been able to overcome the challange that his work was demanding, he must have foreseen his failure in that, and have taken this extremely shameful step to leave his parents in tears...

Himanshu, please do not blame anyone without a proof. Yes you are right, if Sandeep committed a suicide, then he was definitely a looser in life. But what if it's not a suicide, and it's a murder?

For me it's difficult to digest that a merit holder, and IITian can commit a suicide due to work pressure. It's just unbelievable. There are so many opportunities around, and plenty of dreams to be fulfilled... No one can ruin it like this. I feel really sorry for his family, and you please don't add to their sorrows. I hope you get it.

AFTER SO MANY COMMENTS,I STILL BELIEVE I'VE A BIT TO ADD.

IN INDIA WE PLACE UNDUE IMPORTANCE ON BRIGHTNESS. WE INCORRECTLY CALL THEM INTELLECTUALS. THESE ARE PEOPLE WITH STRONG LEFT BRAINS, IN GENERAL. AGREED, SANDEEP WAS ACADEMICALLY SOUND. AGREED HIS EMPLOYER PERHAPS PUT UNDUE PRESSURES ON HIM.

I'LL BE HAPPY ONLY WHEN MY FELLOW INDIANS TAKE IT TO THEMSELVES TO DEVELOP THEIR OWN SELVES THROUGH SOUND SPIRITUAL PRACTICE ORIGINATING FROM OUR HOME COUNTRY AND THE REST OF ASIA. THE REST OF THE WORLD TAKES US SERIOUSLY (THE DALAI LAMA, ECKHART TOLLE, J KRISHNAMURTY, SWAMI VIVEKANAND IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER); WHY DON'T WE? - AN INDIAN BORN AUSTRALIAN CITIZEN AND A PROUD MARATHI SOUL

    FRIENDS!
What Abhijit says and every body feels is absolutely right.why should one commit suicide when he is the best in his field and has achieved so much in such a young age??
The answer could be complicated but there is an answer.People do think of self harm or suicide when they have a psychological problem amounting to a clinical disorder. In such a mental state, the person suffering from it is unable to gauge the options available and the consequences of his actions. Most of such mental conditons are fully treatable. All the suggestions made by Abhijit will make sense to a person only when his thinking pattern comes to a level of acceptance and understanding.High or low intellegence hardly matters if one had a neurochemical underlying cause influencing ones behaviour and thoughts.
Friends PSYCHIATRIC INTERVENTION IS ABSOULUTEY WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN IN SUCH A CASE.
This advice comes from me, since I have treated(as a psychiatrist) heaps of people suffering and recovering from similar conditions by treatment.

Its 99% fault of Indian IT Manager's they really don't know how to manage a work load v/s client dead line. All they think is about their quarterly commission.

When I was working in India I remember few times I worked more than 36 hrs at a stretch and now from last 4 years I am in USA and I never worked more than 10 hrs (MAX) a day. It’s all based on my personal experienced.

My suggestion is let the Police IT crime division do investigation is this. They should just check the Sandeep’s office e-mail box. And they will find all reason behind Sandeep’s suicide.

I really fee very sorry for Sandeep and has family. He should have thought one more time before taking this decision.

You have written it very nicely. I DO KNOW what stress software people are going through as I myslef worked with a software company for a couple of years and then I decided to come out of it.
I could do it because I was non-techie. However, there are some of my friends who went through unbearable pressure, humiliation and stress, harassment. One of these friends is from HSBC software and the boss was very unreasonable. I am resisting my urge to write his name as my friend had to leave the company becasue of this unqualified and demanding boss who himself was not able to read the code or test the product. Now this boss has left HSBC for Singapore based company. Meanwhile, atleast 4 of his subordinates have left the company, which they could do. I feel that is what they could do.

I'm totally agreed with the Abhi and also agree with one US user's blog. We can complete dead line in office time also just we need to manage our working time and IT manager understand the mind of his co-worker and as per there strength they has to allocate work load on them. Then he can complete his deadline in time even before deadline too.
Sandeep I'm really feel bad for you and for your mother. You’ve to think thousand times before commit to Suicide. So many people are working under pressures but they always try to find way to come out from it. You’re well educated person for you it is not difficult to find the way. We all people are seeing lots of small children, who working in hotels, private firm those children having the lots of problem, Some them working for there ill mother/brother/sister/father or some of them working to complete there brother/sister’s study, but they never think for suicide.

I know Sandeep is not with us, But I’m writing this because people read this and in future we expect no more Sandeep commit to suicide.
For all people please do not suicide because every prolem has its own solution we have to find it.

I have worked for at least 10 years in SW. Have seem many managers and I am a SW manager now. One thing can be said is that very few manager seem to be caring about somebody puttin long hours and missing family/personal life. This has been the trend.
1.I think many managers can not handle the pressure themselves and offload it to their subordinate.
    2. Many a times IT comanies quote less effort budget to get project... or product comanies might underestimate..
Now this is done by sales/presales, estimator, etc and the aggressive schedule is executed by the project MGr and his team...
Some of the functions tracking schedule sleeppages seem not to have any sensitivity to hardwork being put by the team while they are covering their own a**.
3.One of the blogger has raised an issue of any body becoming manager.
This may be true as a manager needs to be aware of human issues as well apart from other things.
People without this sensitivity might be good task masters but in long term may not be able to retain talent.
    4. Some managers do not offer compensatory offs if people have slogged. I think if because of some unavoidable eventuality the team has been th' slog MGR should offer compansatory off to maintain the work/life balance.
    5. At personal level-People might need to use emotional intellegence to tune into the job scenario or change the working environment or ultimately change a job.
Failure at work is not end of world... May be its an opportunity for better change... You might meet better work culture and people...
Also project failures is to be seen objectively than personal failures. A project needs to have many thing right to succeed so just care enough to see that you put your efforts to the fullest without affecting work/life balance beyond your and your family member's tolerance level. Rest is in God's hand...
    cheers

If you can not stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. If you like the money, you hav eto give up your life. If you do not care about money, better find a career that's not so demanding and exit the IT workforce. Sandeep chose to exit the kitchen in a different way. That's unfortunate.

Heartless words these may seem but there's no merit in blaming his boss, company or family in this. There is ALWAYS a choice. No one puts a gun to your head and forces you to be better than your brother/friend/neighbor/random-guy-in-society. You chose to compete. If you think you're not upto it, quit the rat-race. No shame in realizing your own capabilities.

If you feel Sandeep was 'wronged' somehow, you're living in a fool's paradise.

    Hi,
Its late to comment but I read most of the blogs.
What I think is whatevr we or media has seen or rather predicted about Sandeep's Death is superficial.
whatever we read till now projects that Sandeep was a IIT guy.So no problem about his intelligence. As company has sponsered him for the IIT, means he was one of the best performers else why a company will sponser? As per his teammates or company people he was a polite & of good nature. Now the question if everything is all set all well, why he has commited suicide?
What I guess is that it can be a reason called 'Women/Girl'.Now you may say that I am talking ridiculus...
but I have seen 2 very intelligent guys very close to me(1 -engineer & one Doctor MS)commited suicide due to 'NO' from girl. You won't believe, here Sandeep has at least younger brother , but these two guys, were the only son of their parents.to be very frank, I (or I would say many of US) went(goes) thru such mental turmoils, where at that point of time we forget everything & remember only 'NO 'from a girl.
If we talk about Sandeep now, then he was Handsome, had very good job, intelligent, rather he has all those qualities which are required to be "Most Eligible Batchlor".So if he knows that he was the most eligible batchlor & if he got such 'NO' form any girl, which he colud not digest, the ultimate reason of his suicide can be this only....

Many Indians working in IT have no life (other than money). Family life (wife, kids, parents) are usually discounted in project planning for the fat pay-checks. Sandeep's death is a sad event but I feel sorry for his family. They had a brilliant son but he failed miserably in handling stress. He would have had so many options available if he quit Persistent if that was an issue. Obviously his family had a huge share in his success and he let them down in his prime age - that too giving so much sorrow. His mother and brother will have thousands of unanswered questions troubling them rest of their lives. How could such an intelligent mind not think of them?

Rest of the IT folks have lot to learn here. Lavish lifestyles, flats, kids in international schools and vacations abroad do not lead to peace of mind.

Recently started a Bakery franchise and am happy that i am selling food items instead of people! the model at core is same, i realize. Optimize waste goods (bench in IT!) and u manage the Bakery (IT company)

Though there may be personal or other reasons I do tend to agree about the unhealthy working stress in Indian IT industry that comes due to unrealistic project deadlines. This is due to the practice of Indian S/W companies quoting too low for projects and still wanting to show profits.
I have witnessed an incident a decade ago in one of the big IT companies. Due to poor planning from Project Managers the team was forced to work more than 16 hours every day on weekends too close to deadline. There was a colleague who had a 1 year child. She asked the PM if she could go home at 1 AM in the night. This was when IT industry worked normal 8 am - 5pm hours in India. The PM who by the way had 2 kids and was mature atleast by age told her in front of all others that she shouldn't have taken the job if she was more worried about her kid. Because of his error the team were forced to work more than 16 hours and he had the guts to say that at 1 AM in the night to a woman who was asking to go home for her 1 year old child.
This speaks volume about the kind of stress and the workoholic ambitious prepretors in Indian IT industry. Infosys chief for example can talk all he wants about his employees working only 8 hours and recreating other time. That is not the reality for majority of his firm's workforce. Smaller companies who quote still less are even worse. Add to this individual ambitions, pressure of maintaining an unaffordable lifestyle at all costs and we have a monster in the name of this Indian IT industry which is taking the toll in form of burn outs before the 30s or divorces or suicide in this case. Any simple personal or other reason is enough to trigger the ticking time bomb of stress into something with serious consequences.
Weakening family and social structure has turned today's youth mentally and morally very weak. I am in my early thirties and I can see how the last decade has turned the indian social structure topsy turvy.
It is time to change the perspective - individual and social. We have come too far in too less time without giving a thought to the consequences on this roller coaster. Maybe it may take decades to correct it. But small steps would help. Avoid undue stress, befriend your colleagues, treat your team more than code churning machines and the resource items in MS Project. May be you may miss a deadline by a few days. No biggie. IT projects are known to go over deadlines. But you may have just saved a life.

    a very realistic a comment.
After coming back I realized the global economy and the petty way these IT companies (or labor contracting companies!?) are making money.

I started looking at the 'Bharat' I wanted to see. Then realized
    capitalism marxism and all.

The root question - why does the man and woman work at all? for self interest or for social interest? that is the question.

Imagine a scenario where your pay is 200 Rs a month, you pay 10 Rs installment for house and u own a house in just 2 years. How will the life look like ?

Just to add one more to my last post:

A line appeared on Sr Tata's birthday:

"Even if India does not become a superpower, it's allright, but India should become a place of 'Suraajya'*"

Some equivalent terms of Surajya were used in the actual quote.

How true this statement is! But the way Tatas have to do business today, its not possible for them either. I use Tata Indicom broadband and have had horrible support experience!

Police should really investigate any Love angle into this story. Its unfair to blame the company till we know complete truth. Obviously his managers and colleagues could provide more information. But many (if not most) young men today cannot accept rejection from a gal gracefully. That is apparent from the suicides and murders we read everyday. With Sandeep's track record of academic success he might not know what failure or rejection looks like.
I cannot imagine what his mother might be going through. Sandeep should have thought about her. How can you be so selfish as to not think about her?
