पेशवाईच्या स्मृती जपणाऱ्याशनिवारवाड्याची दयनीय अवस्था
हिंदुस्थानच्या राजकारणात दरारा निर्माण करून अटकेपार मराठी साम्राज्याचा विस्तार करणाऱ्या पेशवाईच्या स्मृती जपणारा शनिवारवाडा सध्या दयनीय अवस्थेत आहे. पुण्याचे भूषण म्हणून गौरविल्या जाणाऱ्या या ऐतिहासिक वास्तूची अवशेषांची नियमित आणि नियोजित देखभाल नसल्यामुळे रया गेली आहे.वाड्याचा मुख्य दिल्ली दरवाजा, तटबंदी, बुरूज, आतील विविध वास्तूंची जोती, कारंज्याचे अवशेष पाहता येतात. या अवशेषांची माहिती देणारे फलकही पूर्णपणे वाचता न येण्याच्या स्थितीत आहेत. मुख्य दरवाजातून आत प्रवेश केल्यावर दरवाजावरचे लाकडी छत जाळ्या जळमटांनी भरले आहे. भिंतींवर असणारे गणपती आणि विष्णू या देवतांची चित्रे येत्या काही काळात ओळखू येणार नाहीत एवढे त्याकडे दुर्लक्ष झाले आहे. आतील वास्तूंची जोतीही काळवंडली आहे. वाड्याचे मुख्य आकर्षण असणारी कारंजी अत्यंत वाईट अवस्थेत आहेत. कारंज्यांच्या हौदात साठलेले अस्वच्छ पाणी, तुटलेले लाकडी कठडे असे चित्र सर्वत्रच आहे.
मुख्य दरवाजा वगळता इतर साऱ्याच ठिकाणी अस्वच्छता पसरली आहे. प्लास्टिकच्या पिशव्या, कागद, अन्नपदार्थ याशिवाय नारायण दरवाजा आणि मस्तानी दरवाजा या ठिकाणी लोकांनी केलेल्या अस्वच्छतेमुळे दुर्गंधी पसरली आहे. वाड्याच्या दक्षिण तटाचे काही काम झाले असले, तरी पावसाळ्यातील पाणी झिरपून तेथे आलेली ओल कायम आहे. वाड्याच्या पूर्व आणि पश्‍चिम बाजूचे तट आणि बुरूजही जीर्ण अवस्थेत आहेत.
पुरातत्त्व विभाग म्हणते.
शनिवारवाडा राष्ट्रीय स्मारक म्हणून केंद्रीय पुरातत्त्व खात्याच्या ताब्यात आहे. नगारखान्याचा छज्जा, वाड्यातील पाण्याची पारंपरिक व्यवस्था, कारंजी यांची कामे सुरू असून, निधीच्या उपलब्धतेनुसार ती पूर्ण होणार असल्याचे केंद्रीय पुरातत्त्व खात्याच्या पुणे विभागाचे कॉन्झर्वेशन असिस्टंट बी. बी. जंगले यांनी सांगितले. ""वाड्यात नियमितपणे सफाईसाठी पाच कामगार आहेत. मात्र, भेट देणाऱ्या पर्यटकांची संख्या अधिक असल्याने कायमस्वरूपी स्वच्छता राखण्यासाठी त्यांनीही सहकार्य करायला हवे,'' असेही ते म्हणाले.
पुरातत्व खात्याची पर्यटकांकडून असलेली सहकार्याची अपेक्षा रास्त असली, तरी सफाई कामगारांकडून नियमितपणे वाड्यातील स्वच्छता होते की नाही, याची दखल विभागाकडून घेतली जाते का, हे मात्र कळलेले नाही. त्यामुळे केवळ पर्यटकांच्या माथी खापर पोडणे योग्य नाही. शिवाय सफाईचा मुद्दा तात्पुरता बाजूला ठेवला, तरी कारंजी आणि इतर वास्तूच्या डागडुजीचा वेगही तपासणे आवश्‍यक आहे. वाडयाची दयनीय अवस्था होईपर्यंत हे खाते काय करत होते? हा ही मोठा प्रश्‍न आहे.
Its been like this for last 10-15 years that deterioration of Shaniwar-vada is not stopped. I have seen people - mostly Government is neglecting to improve the premises. One one hand, big "rangoli" with all decorations/lightings is prepared infront of the gate and on other hand, the property is getting ruined.
The Govt should take some firm actions and see to it that such historical properties are maitained.
Just have a look at any such "vada" in the UK/Europe and we should be ashamed that we also have such good properties and they are simply getting ruined.

I guess this issue should have been discussed in the international Kokanastha gathering in Pune. Anti-Brahmanism may be responsible for this disregard as is evident by the beautiful and top-notch condition of the red fort right next door, which is nothing but an imitation. If the government is so defiant on this issue I guess it’s time for us Brahmins to gather a fund for the maintenance of such a historically important monument.
Shanwarwada and dilapidated area around it is a symbol of careless, spineless and muted Punekars. In general Punekars don't bother about how they live, where they spit or how indiscipline the PMC becomes is keeping up with its duties.
I propose to demolish such a trashed monument and build a new monument for Mr. Sharad Pawar. His affiliated organizations can raise ample money for him ( or get it from Switzerland ).
I would firstly like to thank sakal to bring up this issue. They have been fairly well effortful in various issues withing city and state as whole which shows commitment.
As far as a historical monuments such as Shaniwarwada is concerned, no doubt they must be conserved since it represents and carries memories of one time mighty empire/confederacy, wherein were carried important meetings of various rulers from various parts of country. Diminishing of any such structures like forts and all only means forgetting achievements and dedications of mens/womens who carried that valour.

Ask Honorable Prime Minister and Mrs. Sonia Gandhi for some inauguration nearby Shaniwar wada. Make sure to include Shaniwar wada in their visit schedule. This will give a good condition road near Shaniwar wada, clean surroundings. How? 'Active Politicians' in Pune will make sure that Shaniwar Wada will get its old golden bright looks before that visit(well, at least for some days).
Let politicians’ black money itself clean the darkness of Shaniwar wada.

महाराष्ट्रातील पुरातन व एतिहासीक वास्तुंचे जतन करण्यासाठी असलेले खाते येथिल इतर खात्यांप्रमाणेच झोपलेले आहे व या जुन्या मोडकळीस आलेल्या निरनिराळ्या वास्तुंमध्ये त्याला "खायला" संधी मिळत नसल्यामुळे या वास्तुंची वाट लागत आहे.
ज्या राज्याच्या मुख्यमंत्र्याला कायम धारेवर धरले जाते व दिल्लीच्या महाराणीची मर्जी संभाळण्याची कायम कसरत करावी लागते तो काय जतन करणार या वास्तुंचे?कधी राणे,कधी शिंदे अशी नांवे सतत फ़ेकत रहायची,अल्वा किंवा प्रभा राव या बाहेरच्यांची मर्जी संभाळत बसायचे तेथे असेच होणार!
