traffic problem is not for one particular spot. as per RTO daily more than 600 new registereed vehicals are coming on road, plus other , already registered outside RTO, PUNE. For most improve local transport, allow private local transport (mini bus) put restriciton on new registration. after breaking traffic rules, hold vehicle for minimum five days, because of money power, people know that they can easily purchase traffic controlling authority and because of low manpower at every point police force is not available.

It is true that traffic problem is everywhere in Pune. But it was expected that new flyover wil ease the situation.Unfortunately, the work is still not completed and with the result people have many outlets under the bridge to cross the roads.PMC should immediately complete the work and close the area beneath the flyover leaving only one outlet for traffic to cross the sides. The closed area under the flyover can be utilised as PAY-n-PARK for two/four wheelers.Besides this the signals should be made working IMMEDIATELY.Are these people waiting for some unfortunate thing to happen there???It is a very sad state of affairs in our city that civic authorities awakens only after some mishap...don't they understand that prevention is better than cure???

i hve tonnes and tonnes of things to write on pune traffic. sorry to say, one of the most shameless people on earth i hv ever seen as far as traffic discipline goes. btw, i am also hard core punekar and swear that i observe all traffic rules. i have been hurled at abuses like teri maa ki....., teri behen ki....b'cos i gave a fierceful look at someone who broke the signal and was almost to collide with me in a chowk. big lorries, rickshaws, cars, mopeds and everyone seem to be oblivious of traffic rules, pedestrians will cross where they are not supposed to, cyclist think they are cycling mumbai pune race, bikers think they are on dirt track and cars think they are on F1 track ! such freelance traffic is complicating the problems day by day and someone need to start to see a collective change. i dont intend to discourage, but only few like us ; will that be sufficient to bring abt a change ? are the so called literate punekars prudent to understand and digest the basic traffic sense ?

Pune University Bridge is not designed properly.

Bridge should cater to two way traffic from/to aundh this will reduce no of vehicles below the bridge.

Also There should be a ramp to connect from SB road to the bridge. Currently there is lots of traffic going from SB road to Aundh where Road in front of hotel vaibhav is too narrow.

This traffic also obstructs traffic coming from Baner and Pashan.

The problem with Pune's Traffic is the attitude. We should change our attitude and show discipline in following the traffic rules. The public transporters should change their attitude. Instead of sitting their in PMT offices and eating money they should come out with a plan so as to how they can increase the frequancy of the buses, increasing the profit at the same time. Many 2 wheeler riders like me do not travel by buses because they are too crowded and less frequent. If the public transport is efficient then people will not go for purchasing private vehicles. This will reduce major share of problems in my opinion.

Only Solution is Public Transport Improvement.
I have said many times, follow the "Bangalore Municpal Transport" Funda.
    http://www.bmtcinfo.com/english/index.htm

They have made Rs.200 crore profit in the last 2006-2007 financial year.

In Pune the PMT is purposely killed by it's "political masters".

All these top MPs / MLAs have the two wheeler and four-wheeler agency.

Because of this only, they make all efforts so that every Punekar hates PMT and goes for purchasing two-wheeler form the Agency of these "Money-hungrey" greedy Politicians.

That is the reason , they have purposely up-rooted the "Six-seater". When six-seater was popoular , that time only 100 vehicles per day was registered in RTO Pune.

Bangalore has 4900 buse for the population of 70 lakh. Pune has only 850 buses for the population of 35 lakh.

If PMT runs the service like BMTC, numebr of two-wheelers on Pune road will come down from 14 lakh to 4 lakh.

What are the new "NCP-Shivsena" ruling doing adding new buses to PMT , nothing.

Punekar should gear-up and ask for the best PMT similar to that of Bangalore.

PMT should have at least 2500 buses on roads everyday.

    This is only solution.

See the best solution from Bangalore.
    http://www.bmtcinfo.com/english/atpresent.htm

Will our present NCP and SHivsena rulers , improve the PMT ?

I have never heard any MP , MLA or minster from, Pune who has asked to add more buses in the fleet of Pune.

No political leader (irrespective of party) is interested in improving the Public Transport of Pune.

Many of them have two/four wheeler sales agency. Many of them have Petrol pumps.

So the sale of private is cash-benefit for them.

Also the State Govt. from Mumbai is not showing any interest for improving the "PMT" , because they are happy in collecting the "crores" of rupees as sales-tax and road-tax.

Pune people must become sensitive like Mumbai-kar and do everything fro improving PMT.

    Don't blame the bridge.

Publish map of this bridge and instructions about how to use it.

Without proper education, expect bad traffic for sure.

Can anyone identify and tell me, name of person responsible for traffic control and planning for Pune? There must be someone who has this role in our city offices. Can any one take him on a drive to each corner in Pune and show what’s out there? If he cant do anything for this, then I don’t know why he is getting salary every month. - Dinesh

"Name of person responsible for traffic control and planning for Pune???" - These ruling politicians are like Gandhi's monkeys... Bura mat dekho .. bura mat suno.. kind of.

Active punekears could unite/Volunteer for regulation of traffic, here, atleast at peak traffic hrs.

  12. Anonymous said...

Since Punekar are not "active" hence Pune, Pune traffic and Punekar will never change...Things will not improve but it will become more and more probelmatic...And when Punekar will take 40 mins to pass 1 KM, they will start the discussions. They will discuss, discuss and discuss and never take actions ... Nothing will happen my friends..For Punekars the only choice is discuss and suffer, more discuss and more suffer and ....

In current scenario people are aware of the traffic rules and regulations but still everybody is always in hurry so they are breaking rules. Many a times at traffic signal cops are not available so careless driving is there. When policemen will stop taking bribes god knows.........

I stay near Univ and I have been experiencing this problem daily for the last 2 or so years. The problem gets worse during rains resulting into many accidents.
I am not sure when exactly the work statred but it's definitely going at a very slow pace and the work itself is resulting into a major bottleneck.
It is causing a lot of trouble for the residents of the near by area as well.I really did not find the one way fly over near esquare very useful. And it has resulted in a lot of choas below.
I feel the flyovers should be well planned and well executed within a timeframe keeping in mind the future expansions etc.

Seems some people no only punishment and not self-disipline. I say change the law to put heavy fines (in thousands, not in hundreds) and criminal punishment in severe cases like speeding, drunk driving or breaking the signal.

But we need to back this with technology to avoid misuse by corrupt police. Put cameras in every big chowk. Introduce digital number plates and give speed checkers to police. I know this is big investment, but we have to do this.

  16. Anonymous said...

It is all becasue of PPPOOOOOOOOOOR planning done Keeping the interests of some people in mind. Politiations of pune are always interested in keeping pune in problems. If we see pune's planning, you will realise certain things....

    1. Problem arises
    2. People do shout
    3. Proposals for solutions invited
    4. Then polititions select a proposal which benefits them
    5. One solution is approved based on their suitability, not based on public suitability
    6. Then it is mutually decided between polititions and contractore "how much to eat how much to use for actual solution"
    7. All labled as approval (so called nautanki) happens

All above stpes consume 2 years of span, by this time problem becomes more crucial.

Now starts the second part of the play.

After wasting 2 years the construction work starts with snail pace, then manuy objections will be created by polititions only like, paryavaranvadi, land aquisition etc. then Highcourt will put some non-sense stay to work. Court will take its own time to remove the stay. Work will be completed incompletely in maybe 3 in years of time. So by the time project is made available for public, it is as per situation which was 5 years ago. so solution is ineffective. So problem remains unsolved or partially solved.

Now what is a need of pune is, a politition with futuristic vision, who can think and support decisions based on future problem so the planning should be really dynamic and creative.

But the fact is that, it will not happen in India and in Pune. I have tried to recommend some solutions through E-patre, but no reply nor publishing has happened. Here it is very difficult for a common person like me to publish his thoughts. It is good to see on silver screens only.

Frankly speaking, nothing can happen. Jitana ho sake, raho yahan pe nahi to nikal jao some other country like US UK or australia. Atleast you will make good money.

First of all I have question about the people who have planned this bridge. This should have been a 2-way bridge. If not It should have been in a reverse direction.
About Pune people traffic sense, only god can educate them or a military control. Pune traffic sense has gone heywired and RTO does not have will to take any action. Forget about the man-power, has RTO registered cases against people for breaching traffic rules? Instead they are happy with collecting the fine. Pune PMC is also interested in earning monet by having pay-n-park and tax on vehicles rather than improving the infrastructure.

I came to know that by introducing the tax on vehicles PMC wants people to refrain from buying new vehicles. I pity on the guy's thinking capability. He wants people to kill their aspirations of having a vehicle because they do not have capabilities of building good infrastructure.

WE ARE WHAT WE ARE. Is the slogan of Punaits when we are on road with our vehicle.
Such a traffic is here, so meny vehicles of diff size and shape going in diff directions on the same road but hardly any major accident. SO WAY WE DRIVE IS RIGHT.
So meny traffic rule are made by learned sitting in a A/C chamers. Handed over to police to implement on poor middle class janata. this is the only rule janata can offered to break. All other civic rules are broken by powerfull people.
Even major traffic rules are also delebertly overlooked by them. You will always find parellal parking by big sallon-car- on busy street because owner is doing shopping. And this is tollerated by police, PMT& comuters. STOP THIS FIRST.
    Rule is uniform for everybody.

hi ,On and nearby flyover of pune university now speed limit is 30km/hr for heavy and 40km/hr for others.
Can anyone from these deciding authorities tell any logic ?
There are no lanes for heavy and light vehicle. Roads are merely single everywhere. So somebody whos is supposed to go at 40km in the traffic of trucks moving at 30km on the same lane /road should go about?
There is no thinking and perception is absent thoroughly.Actually public servents at every step think they are the Kings.
City is running litrally on Auto mode..There must be a GOD!!!!!

Hi ,I have a very good thought about the Traffic Signal breakers,
All the great guys who Smarly changes the lanes in hurry, ignore the yellow sign( They may be colour blind) can't see zebra crossing markings and if police is not present don't think that signals are there to follow.
All thses Jems of our society whenever they are cought should be made to park the vehicle and should be seated on trafic island or in middle of Chowk for at least 3 hours and observe the traffic..There can be a added effect by putting a Crown proclaming DUMB TRAFFIC KING. (This may obstruct the traffic a little more-but unless spectacle is made its of no use)
Effect will be really nice either they get educated about traffic or atleast be a example for others not to do the same thing..
    Hope this gets implimented sometime!!!!!
