Only option to this problem is strict traffic rule enforcement on pune roads. There need to be positive fear of traffic police in Pune. But a standard excuse is given by police - "No Man Power"!!!

There are two mandatory solutions for this. There is no third alternative.
    1. Improve the PMT service. Make it cheaper, fater , better. See the Bangalore Municpal Transport is making profits for last 09 years. It is the cheapest city transport in India.
    See this BMTC link

    http://www.bmtcinfo.com/english/index.htm

    2. Pune Traffic Police, must act pro-actively and manage the traffic. If they prevent the traffic offence , then the Fine and Ltem will not required.

Pune Traffic police is crying for
Man-power, this is only because of our "non-active" political leaders of Pune. Here all the leaders from all the parties need to be blamed.

Pune has all the rights to get more police manpower. When Local, State and Central taxes are compared Pune is on second place in Maharashtra.

Pune pays the maximum road-tax in Maharashtra, becausse maximum vehicles are registered in MH-12 and MH-14 series.

    Dear All,

It is always very easy to blame the politicians and police. However, above all, I feel, the self-discipline and sense of responsibility is utmost important to resolve the traffic problems.

When we drive a vehicle on roads, it is our responsibility to drive it safely by following the traffic rules. We all know the story of two goats crossing a narrow bridge. Like the wise goat, who lied down so that the other goat can pass over him, on the narrow roads of Pune, we should show the prudence of giving others first chance to pass by. Why do we need police to look over us? We are certainly self-sufficient to follow the traffic rules and observe discipline. Yes, we on our own can solve the traffic congestion problems because we are the root cause of it.

anonymous dated 26 July has raised one of prime issue, THE NUMBER OF POLICEMAN. I mean I don't understand we are already contributing ~8% of direct NATIONAL tax and this is what we have to face. I am pointing towards lack of proper funding for police department in general. That sector is so VITAL and yet not properly funded and total manpower is undercut. You know what, it gives a feeling that we need another kind of uprise like during freedom fighting days with bunch of good leaders to guide us again and help FIGHT FOR CIVIL RIGHTS.
Another way to see it is this is a lesson learned and so hopefully state govt pays proper attention towards "FUNDING" for "INTEGRAL DEPARTMENTS" and NOT LET SUCH THINGS HAPPEN IN UPCOMING & EXPANDING CITIES LIKE NASIK, KOLHAPUR, NAGPUR and all by having enough police force so that such situations could be avoided.
