Till the moment Politicans owns shops of selling two wheelers in Pune and same politicians will not allow to improve public transport we can not aviod this in Pune. At the same time Police should act very strictly and should not look for personal interest or just complete target of collection.

What we as Indians lack is a little "Honesty" and "Self-discipline". It is OUR responsibility to look after ourselves as we know that neither our Politicians nor our Police have time. So instead of blaming anyone else lets take efforts and make our roads safe.

Privatization of traffic police department leading to yearly contracts to different govt. associated trained agencies for regulating traffic... something similiar based on concept of cashless computerized toll naka could be a possible answer.

This could also reduce shortage of traffic policemen, more employment and may also result in higher revenue for the related department.

It would be no wonder, if everyone would start obeying rules because of personal money loss.

    What say?

What Ajit said is true. There has to be some self discipline.
Whenever we see the red traffic light how many of us stop ??
There is no point in puting the blame on politicans, police. If the rule is for us, then we should follow it.
In united states, there is a fine of $100 for the simple rule breaking (like not following trafic light, speeding, etc). Its a big amount compared to the monthly salary ($3000-$3500). I think the Pune police will follow the same, then there will be discipline. The rule is simple, if you break it the fine will be Rs 10000. If Pune police make this rule, then how may people will break the rule. I understand the police will try to make money through 'compramise', but if the fine is Rs. 10000, then the compramise will be Rs 2000. And how many times Punekar will give that.
But again, when the name PUNE comes, then the question who will understand ? who will follow the rulw? why? why only me????
    Mhanunach Punekara tula salam!!

I think PUNE, PUNEKAR & Pune Traffic will never improve.
Because most of the Punekar follow a common rule. it is "I will not follow the rule and I will never allow other people to follow it". Pune Police also give their 'valuable contribution' by acceptng bribe, etc.
Whenever I visit Pune, I always stop at the red trafic light, but then every time I hear horns shouting on me and people look at me as if I am ediot. Now a days also I stop at the red trafic light, but immediately after stoping I switch on the hazard lights so that all these signal breakers stop and blame themselves for stoping behind me (instead of shouting on me!).

  12. Anonymous said...

    so what ?

  13. Anonymous said...

In US the fine is not just $100 for breaking signal or speeding, its about $350 and more. you not only have to pay this fine, but also attend an eight hour long class in which they teach you about rules and regulations etc. if you dont attend this class, then they enter your traffic violations in your social security record. social security record is very important as it contains your background info. if you break rules and it come on your social security, then you record gets really bad and this affects in numerous ways. it will take another 100 years in Pune to make such system.

for now, be responsible, honest , and think about others at least when u r in public places and streets !!

I agree with my other friends, but I know that their ideas are absolutely expensive.
But still we have hope for the same.
    According to my vision,
State Government should create the post for dummy polices, duty of whome is only to catch the Bribened Traffic police persons.
The work of dummy police is --
    1. To catch the traffic policeman, who is absent while his duty.
    2. To catch the traffic policeman, who is not performing his duty, as per expectation.
    3. To catch the traffic policeman, who is asking for a bribe.

For further ideas state govt. or any other person can ask me on : 9823799062 (Akshay)

My idea is not much more expensive as compair to others.

Government's revenue will definitely be going to increase.

    This is my pragmatic vision.

Yes indeed we need self descipline. Another factor is lack of implementation of road safety rules and hard punishment for anyone who is breaking it.

How many license holders know traffic rules properly? Getting a lisence is a big joke. Even a blind person can get lisence, and one without giving test. The theoretical test should be made compulsary and process a lot strict. Point system should be implemented and license should be suspended immediately. Fines should be trippled. RTO should study the traffic system in other developed country and improve existing system or come up with some better improvements.

If people deny to follow descipline and wish to behave like lambs then should crack down on them and teach them how humans drive.
